Location: Beloeil, QC
The basin involved in this project is next to a recently developed residential neighborhood. It has two levels, one for 5-year flood levels and one for 10-year flood levels. The goal is to maximize the period of retention after significant rain events, without creating a permanent pond in order to control mosquito populations. This will be accomplished by planting different species of plants and vegetation that will act as biofiltration agents. The vegetation, along with other landscaping elements, will also make the area more aesthetically pleasing.
This kind of basic water retention basin (as pictured above) can be seen in many places across Quebec; therefore any improvements will be easily transferable.
