Background
The environmental challenges of the 21st century cannot be solved without protecting and restoring our natural ecosystems – land and ocean ecosystems which provide air, water and food. The sustainability of our biodiversity is being threatened by fire, floods, tornados, ice storms, disease, pathogen and insect outbreaks and other ecological impacts from climate change. Arctic and forest ecosystems as well as human-dominated settled landscapes are at risk.
